Informing and supporting businesses in the
home credit industry

A J Cockle Finance

Family run home credit firm, A.J. Cockle Finance was started by Alfred John Cockle over 50 years ago in Romford, Essex.  Before the war Alf's mother had provided loans to friends and neighbours in London's East End and Alf wanted to continue to offer a personal service, directly in people's homes.

For Alf's son Steve, who had grown up seeing his dad run the business, getting involved was a natural progression.  With the help of his wife Jan, he expanded the business into Dagenham, Barking, Harold Hill and Basildon during the 1990s.

Now 30 years on, Steve's son Dan is carrying on the family home credit tradition.  With a growing portfolio of just over 2000 customers, extending across the county of Essex and an average of 5 new customers being acquired a week, the firm's future is looking bright.

Urgent Help Required

When Dan's dad Steve took over the business in the 90s he discovered that the firm's contracts were not legally binding and the Citizens Advice Bureau pointed him in the direction of the CCA for help and advice.

The situation was successfully resolved and in 1994 A J Cockle Finance opted to become a member of the CCA to take advantage of the full range of services which were on offer to home credit firms.

Dan Cockle of A J Cockle Finance comments:

"Where do I start? Being a member of the CCA has provided numerous benefits over the years but I'd say that we couldn't have got through the FCA authorisation process without their support. We have just been notified that we are now authorised and we are confident that the CCA will continue to support us during the supervision stage and beyond".
